Glenn Greenberg, 68 years young

Accountant

I've been running for 20 years, since 1987 when I had a heart attack.

I started running because I needed to build up my strength and lower my cholesterol from my heart attack.  I have always been athletic and involved in sports since High School.

If I could no longer run I would walk.

It's important for my health to keep exercising whether it's walking, running, biking or cross training.

My favorite run is the Antarctic.  I ran the Fall Marathon in 2002 and the 1/2 Marathon in February of 2007. Even though it was cold, the scenery was un-believable.  My second best was Kenya, Africa where I finished my 7th Continent Marathon.  This is opposite of Antarctic, being on the Equator and so HOT.

My favorite thing to do after a hard workout is take a shower and relax to slow my body down with a bottle of water.

I like to run with Rose Austin, my running partner since 1999. I also like to run with anyone running at my pace, so the time goes faster, especially during Marathons.

An obstacle or challenge I've overcome with my running is not having any more heart problems since 1/2004.  My Angi Plasti has lasted 18 years.  It wouldn't have if I hadn't started running.

When I'm not running I like to travel world wide. I fish at my home in Minnesota; read, write stories on my marathon experience, play with the stock market and most of all spend time with my grand kids.

I am inspired by the runners in the WMM (World Marathon Majors) and Marathon, and RRR Races.  I am inspired by the support the runners get from the spectators.  I am inspired by the volunteers that make these races work.

I am inspired by the number of races in the US and World and how they have grown and huge budgets and income they bring into countries and charities.  I am also inspired by RRR Circuit Races.  How organized most of them are.

I admire all runners.  I admire people who have the motivation to run in a race.

I think it's great that I meet so many unbelievable runners in my marathon tours and they're all great friends.  I've met several Olympians also.

My 1st marathon was Chicago and at the 18th mile I wanted to drop out.  However, I wasn't going to give up so I told myself "I'm going to create a positive mind set, that I am going to finish a race that I started."

My greatest running accomplishment is being a finisher at any race, whether it be a 5K, a 10K or a marathon.  I have finished a marathon on all continents, and in 2002 was the 46th in the world to do so.  All my marathons have a story with them.

My next goal? I am doing 1/2 Marathons on all 7 Continents.  I have 3 more continents to do; Africa, South America and Asia.  I just completed my final WMM Marathon, in Berlin, Germany on 09/30/2007 and have become a member of WMM, World Marathon Majors.  I plan to complete 1/2 marathons on all continents in 2008.

My first race was the Heritage Race in 1989.  I trained from the YMCA Cardio Rehab.  My first award was from Nurses at Rockford Memorial Hospital.  Sometimes I believe you can get addicted to running... if you stop, your body tells you "lets go run."

My advice to other runners: Train!  I ran marathons with my longest run being 8 miles, but training is mandatory.  Drink lots of water.  Create a positive attitude.  Prepare a schedule to make you motivated daily.  Don't miss over 2 days in a row running.
